Phones LinkSync works on

Check these before you buy phones or ask staff to use their own. The app stores won’t install LinkSync on a phone that’s too old, and the app tells you if a phone can’t read a GeoSync.

In short

  • iPhone with iOS 17 or later: iPhone XS, XR and newer.
  • Android 10 or later, on a phone that can pay contactlessly by tapping.
  • One phone per person, kept to themselves, with a screen lock.

Phones

iPhone

  • iOS 17 or later.
  • That means iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation) and every iPhone since.

Android

  • Android 10 or later.
  • The phone must be able to pay contactlessly by tapping, because that same part reads the GeoSync. Most phones from the last few years can; some low-cost models can’t. Check the phone’s specification before buying.
  • Phones from the main brands sold in the UK with the Google Play Store.

What every phone needs

  • A screen lock (passcode, fingerprint or face), set up by the person who uses the phone and nobody else.
  • A front camera, for the face check if your organisation uses it.
  • Location turned on for LinkSync while someone is clocked in.
  • On Android, the phone’s tap-to-pay setting switched on. The app shows how if it’s off.
  • The latest version of the LinkSync app, and an up-to-date operating system.
  • Not jailbroken, rooted or otherwise changed to remove its built-in protections. LinkSync checks this when a phone is registered.

Each person registers one phone, and one phone holds one person’s account. It can be a work phone, or their own phone if they and the organisation agree. See our terms of use.

Not supported

  • iPhone X, iPhone 8 and older. They can’t update to iOS 17.
  • Android phones that can’t pay contactlessly by tapping.
  • Tablets, shared phones and phones that several people use.

When Apple or Google stop supporting a version, we may stop too. We’ll give organisations at least [3 months’] notice before raising the minimum, as our Customer Agreement describes.

The web admin
